ROAD SAFETY AND DEFENSIVE DRIVING SEMINAR FOR NCMB DRIVERS

The National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) in coordination with Land Transportation Office (LTO) conducted a one day seminar on Road Safety and Defensive Driving for NCMB Drivers at the NCMB Central Office 5th Floor Conference Room, Arcadia Building, Quezon Avenue, Quezon City on March 1, 2018.

The seminar  aims to enhance the awareness of drivers on road safety and courtesy, defensive driving, riding tips, values, qualities and responsibilities of drivers, and transportation-related ordinances  such as RA 4136 (Land Transportation & Traffic Code, RA 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Law), RA 8750 (Seat Belts Use Act of 1999), and the most recent 10913 (Anti-distracted Driving Act).

ED Pascual provided the welcome message, she said that it is very inspiring to see the Board’s drivers gather together in an activity to enhance their skills.

ED Pascual facilitated a brief pre-seminar assessment to know the participants expectations from the seminar.

OIC  Emelita O. Soliven of the Field Enforcement Division presented an Overview of the Land Transportation Office; Laws Being Implemented by LTO; and the Effects of Alcohol in Driving.  “Being a professional driver is a privilege.  A privilege because the government has given you the chance to serve in your community.” Ms. Soliven said. She also explained the rules and regulations on driving,  vehicle registration and most importantly the laws that should be followed and abided by professional drivers.

Chief Roberto A. Valera, of the Field Enforcement Division, discussed Land Transportation Laws  or RA 4136,  Importance of Pre-tip Inspection and Causes and Prevention of Traffic Accidents/Road Crashers.

Mr. Allan A. Garcia, of the Traffic Safety Division, discussed Traffic Signs, Signals and Pavement Markings, Road Safety, Sharing, Courtesy and Discipline and Responsibilities and Rights of Drivers.

While, Ms. Beverly C. Sabela, of the Traffic Safety Division, provided insights on Understanding and Avoiding Road Rage and Stress Management.

The seminar on Road Safety and Defensive Driving is a part of a series of training and seminars the Board has lined up for its staff this 2018.  It is in keeping with the thrusts on continuous learning and skills to be effective in their job.

OIC Chief, Rose–Maria C. Mamaoag  thanked the resource speakers in sharing their time and knowledge.  The activity   contributed to the awareness and understanding of the NCMB Drivers, she added.

At the end of the activity, Executive Director Shirley M. Pascual, Deputy Maria Teresita L. Cancio,  and OIC Chief,  Rose-Maria C. Mamaoag  handed  the   certificate of appreciation to the speakers for sharing their expertise.- Diadema Aquino Aguirre
