NATIONAL CONCILIATION AND MEDIATION BOARD

Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – Forty two officers and employees of the Calapan Labor Service Cooperative (CALSEDECO) participated in the orientation seminar on workplace cooperation and grievance management conducted by Regional Conciliation and Mediation Branch – IV-B (RCMB IV-B) at the company premises on September 9, 2015.

Ms. Angelina De Los Reyes, administrative service chief of the cooperative, organized the orientation to educate the officers and employees of the cooperative on the concepts of workplace cooperation and grievance management in the workplace.

RCMB IV-B Director Lourdes P. Estioco introduced to the participants the programs and services of NCMB. She focused her discussion on the DOLE Convergence Program.

Labor and Employment Officer Julie P. Peleo, meanwhile articulated the concept of workplace cooperation program. She highlighted the benefits of LMC for both management and workers in her presentation. “Genuine teamwork and commitment are the key factors to sustain harmonious relations in the workplace,” Peleo said.

The topic on grievance management was presented by Administrative Officer III Renato Q. Fajardo, who emphasized the need for grievance machinery to address complaints or issues in the workplace.

Ms. Sonia C. Satur, the general manager, proudly shared the cooperative’s best practices and said that this seminar will enhance their existing partnership programs. “Most of the action committees are in place, what we need now is to formalize the LMC structure of CALSEDECO,” she said.

The RCMB IV-B team also took time to visit Ma. Estrella Hospital after the activity in CALSEDECO.

The team had a fruitful discussion with Dr. Mita C. Goco, the hospital’s founder and administrator, together with worker representatives and LMC officials.

At the informal meeting, Estioco discussed the DOLE Convergence of Programs and the ideal LMC structure. Upon her suggestion, the hospital representatives agreed to form two additional committees in their LMC: productivity committee and bipartite compliance committee.

Dr. Goco thanked the team at the conclusion of the meeting. “We are presently putting up additional facilities to accommodate the growing number of patients, and we need more of your assistance to educate our workers through your labor education seminars,” she said.

Estioco also thanked the LMC officers for spending time in the consultation.

CALSEDECO is a multi-purpose development cooperative involved in cargo handling services, credit and lending services, consumer sales service, trucking and hauling services, and many others. It employs 185 workers. A multi- awarded cooperative, the company is ISO 9001: 2008 certified, and holds a certification for being compliant to occupational safety and health standards issued by the Department of Labor and Employment.
