Misamis Oriental – Media consultant, columnist, and former GMA Field Reporter Julius Segovia led the skills enhancement and training for the Board’s Labor Information Officers on effective news and feature writing and storytelling in Misamis Oriental.
With over 40 participants coming from different branches of the Board, Internal Services Deputy Executive Director Maria Cristina Mangaliman welcomed the writers during the start of the five-day training on 27 March 2023. In her welcome remarks, she raised that the training was organized to update the officers on the latest trends and practices in writing press releases.
In line with the continuous and increasing settlement of labor disputes across the country, DED Mangaliman expressed that it is high-time for the officers to highlight, through press releases and media collateral, the efforts being exerted by the Board, particularly the technical staff, to achieve its organizational mission and goals.
The five-day training activity covers the topics on writing press releases, feature stories, tips to maximize social media engagement, broadcast writing, and various camera shots, angles, and movements.
Having a background in working with government offices, the resource speaker, Segovia, raised the importance and role of press releases and feature articles in disseminating information to its clientele. “Aside from information awareness, press releases and articles may serve as a gateway for the Board to increase its brand awareness.” Segovia said during the training activity.
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office No. 10 Director Albert E. Gutib also graced the activity to impart words of encouragement to the participants. He shared a famous line of former DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz. “Ang kwenta natin ay dapat may kwento” Regional Director Gutib quoted, emphasizing the importance of press releases in achieving targets and milestones.
The training served as an avenue for participants to learn and showcase their skills and styles relative to writing and creating content. This has been evident in the proactive participation of the participants during the discussions and workshops. With this training, they are expected to actively produce more collateral for public information dissemination.
