RCMB XII, led by SupLEO Jemeia Mae De Eyoy, conducted conciliation-mediation sessions to help two plantation workers receive their retirement benefits.
Koronadal City, South Cotabato – More than half a million pesos in retirement benefits were released to two (2) retired plantation workers on February 17, 2025 following the successful conciliation and mediation process between the workers and a company in Koronadal City.
The workers who retired in October and November 2024 after dedicating 20 to 25 years of service to the company, sought assistance from the Regional Conciliation and Mediation Branch XII (RCMB XII) on January 21, 2025 under the Single Entry Approach (SEnA) program to expedite the release of their retirement benefits.
Despite fulfilling and submitting all the necessary requirements, the retirees experienced delays in the release of their benefits. The delay caused unnecessary stress, as the retirees depend on their retirement funds to support themselves after leaving the workforce.
RCMB-XII Supervising LEO Jemeia Mae De Eyoy scheduled a series of conciliation conferences to help resolve the dispute.
During the conciliation proceedings, the company representatives explained that the delay was due to the centralization of processes in their finance department and challenges arising from employee turnover. This slowed down the processing of the retirement claims. Despite these challenges, they assured the Branch and the retirees of their commitment to following proper procedures and resolving the issue as soon as possible.
The retirees expressed sincere gratitude for the efficient handling of their request for assistance, thanking both RCMB-XII and the company management for facilitating the prompt resolution of the matter.
The swift intervention not only led to a positive outcome for the retirees but also underscored the vital role of the NCMB in safeguarding workers’ rights, even after they have officially retired.
RCMB-XII continues to provide essential technical assistance in resolving disputes between workers and employers, ensuring that all workers, including retirees, have timely access to their rightful benefits. The NCMB’s Conciliation-Mediation Program serves as a vital instrument for both workers and employers to navigate complex labor and employment issues through effective communication. It promotes equitable solutions to maintain harmonious workplace relationships while ultimately supporting a fair and just working environment for all.
